Rachel Farmer has built her career focusing on the importance of serving local audiences.
As an Emmy Award–winning leader, Rachel has more than 15 years of experience working at the intersection of journalism, digital innovation, and team development. Rachel currently serves as Director of Content Operations for ABC Owned Television Stations, where she partners with local and national newsrooms to shape editorial strategy and news gathering practices, and help teams adapt to new platforms and technologies, including responsible uses of AI. Over the course of her career, Rachel has led teams through breaking news, major national events, and long-term transformation efforts, while also helping launch new storytelling brands and streaming initiatives.
Rachel is most passionate about directly with journalists and creators — listening first, building trust, and translating big ideas into practical workflows that support both editorial integrity and audience growth.
Rachel grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and began her career on the assignment desk at KGO-TV before transitioning to roles focused on digital platforms and later operations across the ABC station group. Her favorite reporting memory is covering the 2013 story of Miles Scott aka “Batkid,” when the entire city of San Francisco into Gotham for a day for a Make-A-Wish event.
She currently lives in Charleston, South Carolina where she is an unapologetic “dog mom” to her Aussie, Pickle, and Aussiedoodle, Remy.
